Dewatering

The need for dewatering in the industry and for environmental remediation has inspired an innovation from our own Geosynthetic industry. Removals of sludge such as mud from rivers or tailings in mining and other industry wastes are usually done by drying up the sludge with presses or by the use of evaporation ponds. While these methods work quite well, the speed of these processes sometimes cannot keep up with the production.

A solution by using Geotube® to contain the solids while at the same time allows the liquid to be ‘squeezed out’ is therefore very attractive. With the help of polymers, the suspended solids are bound together in a matter of seconds and allow clear liquid to flow out of the tubes. Because the separation is done naturally, the process only depends on the pump with which the sludge is flowed through into the tubes.

After a while, the solid can be transported either to a landfill or for other usage. Since the solid is dry enough, the transport is made easier and cleaner. The remaining liquid may or may not be good enough to release into the nature depending on the waste but after going through this process, the TSS, BOD, and COD are lowered which helps make the treatment process to be more efficient and effective.

For some industries, this means large volume reductions and therefore reducing the number of ponds they need which saves them cost and increases & prolongs the plant’s production.
