| Application: ACCELERATION of CONSOLIDATION PROCESS |
General |
In an increasing number of situations structures are founded on considerable thickness of naturally or reclaimed soft cohesive deposits.
Problem |
The problem of the soft cohesive clays is its very slow consolidation, which often require up to 20 to 25 years to achieve 90% or 95% consolidation.
Solution |
The principle feature of Colbonddrain is that it provides much shorter and highly permeable drainage paths for dissipation of excess pore water pressure allowing 90% consolidation in a time period of months rather than years. This substantial reduction of the consolidation time required for compressible clays leads to a higher factor of safety and a shorter construction time of the final works which in turn leads to a reduction in project cost to the client.

Without inserting Colbonddrain, dissipation of excess pore water is a slow process |

With Colbonddrain, the shear strenghtt increases rapidly, preventing delay and stability problems
Performance benefits of materials |
- By using Colbonddrain at relative distance, a system of very permeable vertical channels is created. Through these channels the excess pore water can easily flow to a drainage layer on top of the compressible soil.
- When Colbonddrain is used, a faster decrease of the pore water overpressure takes place, the consolidation time is shortened and the settlements are speeded up.
